It is no surprise 2020 has been an excellent year for music, especially for women. This year, in particular, has seen the most number-one debuts in history with twelve total; close to half were from female artists including Nicki Minaj, Ariana Grande, Lady Gaga, and Taylor Swift.

While emerging artists like Alaina Castillo and Tate McRae gained some recognition in 2020, we’re going to focus on some new up and coming artists that you need to watch out for in 2021. From self-produced artists to TikTok superstars this list is undoubtedly a combination of amazing new talent.

Blane Muise

Blane Muise, most commonly known as Shygirl, has a unique flow that has caused her to gain the attention of thousands of people. With less than five years in the industry, Shygirl has already managed to make her presence known, gaining close to 70,000 followers on Instagram. What makes her music even better is the amazing visuals to accompany it. Thankfully for us, Shygirl decided to release her first-ever album this year! The album features seven tracks including her single “Slime.” Her sick flow is causing her to rapidly grow so make sure you check out her latest album to see what the hype is about.

Jojo Radecky

Sophomore theatre performance student at Kent State University Jojo Radecky became an overnight sensation on TikTok for her amazing vocal abilities. Radecky is most notably known for playing a character on her page, Karen Smith from Mean Girls. One of the first videos Radecky uploaded portraying Karen Smith gained over 280,000 likes. Since the blow-up of the first video, Radecky has maintained her character and has gained an impressive following on the app. She even came out with her line of merchandise including hoodies, crewnecks, t-shirts, stickers, and fanny packs. Although Radecky is still early on in her musical performance career, it’s clear we will be seeing her star in a Broadway show in no time.

Valerie Valek

Growing up, Valerie Valek was homeschooled which left her with a lot of time to discover hidden talents. From the age of nine, Valek would play with the different instruments lying around the house. Over the years she learned how to become a proficient Guitar, Ukulele, and Piano player. At the age of sixteen, Valek started taking her music seriously and invested in professional equipment so she could record from home. Now, 22, Valek spends most of her time writing original music while also doing song covers. Most of her musical content is posted on her YouTube channel; although, Valek has recently ventured off to TikTok and Instagram as well. If Pink Floyd, Paul Simon, Fleetwood Mac, or Peter Frampton are some of your favorite artists, then Valek is definitely the singer you need to check out.

Caleb Hearn

Caleb Hearn began uploading his music to streaming services just last year. Already, Hearn has managed to gain a substantial social media following with close to 600,00 TikTok followers. After his recent song “Always Be” blew up, Hearn began receiving offers from major record labels. Hearn wrote the song in honor of his best friend who had passed away three years ago. Shortly after the song was released, the person who produced the instrumental sold it. Thankfully another producer, Colin Foote, saw the potential in the song and helped Hearn remake the instrumentals. Now there is a new version of the song titled “Always Be 2020” available on all streaming platforms. The song recently reached number one on the iTunes songwriter chart, becoming Hearn’s first. There’s no doubt Hearn has a passion for music so make sure to go check out his other releases.

All four up and coming artists have a totally unique sound that deserves to be heard by everyone. If you haven’t already, make sure to check them out on their different social platforms. Also, make sure to give them a follow so you can keep up to date with their latest releases. Who knows, maybe one of them will be the next to top the Billboard Hot 100 charts this year!
