2021’s already shaping up to be a promising year — how can we tell, you might ask? From the bags, of course! Ever since the spring collections were shown last fall, we’ve been coveting the bags that ruled the (mostly digital) runways of New York, London, Milan and Paris — and now, we’re ready to rock them everywhere. This season’s best bags spanned a variety of statements both new and familiar, from leopard prints to oversized styles. No matter the shape, material or bag type, they’re sure to make any outfit a memorable start to the new year. Read on for the six that are topping our wish lists right now!

Zebra

We’re always going wild for animal prints — so wearing them on our bags is a no-brainer. The striped print made major statements in Rebecca Minkoff and Self-Portrait’s recent collections, inspiring us to pair our favorite zebra sweaters and jackets with a matching bag in the new year. We’re already looking forward to bringing this style out of the jungle and into our wardrobes!

Monogram

When brand-specific logos made the rounds at Balmain, Gucci and Celine, we knew they were a must-have for 2021. Our personal favorite? Totes covered in the monogrammed symbols, like Kate Spade’s latest. The print will bring structure and sharpness to any look, in the perfect silhouette for carrying all of your essentials.

Metallic

Metallics are sure to brighten up any outfit, but especially for bags. We’re loving the texture on everything from belt bags to top handles, but our personal favorite is a shoulder bag. Recently revived by brands like Coach and By Far, shoulder bags are perfect for a sassy look — or if you really just need to carry your phone and favorite lip gloss wherever you go. Metallic tones will bring out boldness in even the most subtle fashionista, while adding a pop of shine to even the dreariest winter days.

Velvet

Velvet is back — at least if we’re listening to Saint Laurent, Kurt Geiger and Roger Vivier, which all used the plush textile for their latest bags. Crossbodies or top-handles are ideal for making a soft statement with the material all season long. We’re loving how they look with complementary jackets and boots for winter outfits that are fresh and feminine.
