It's almost the most wonderful time of the year. A time where the rest of the world seems to stands still, and the streets of New York turn into their very own runway. Yes, you guessed it- it's almost time for Fashion Week. The one time of the year where, "the women of New York leave the past behind and look forward to the future," as described by Carrie Bradshaw. Fashion Week really is a time for new beginnings. A time to leave all of your fashion faux pas of the past six months behind you, unless they're documented on Instagram (then, we can't really help you), and look forward to what the future holds for the fashion industry.
Now, if you're reading this, then you've probably landed one of those oh so coveted tickets to Fashion Week- congrats. And if you haven't, no worries, check out our guide to attending Fashion Week here. But, if you are attending then you probably have one big question lingering in the back of your mind, what do I wear to Fashion Week? See below for some of my favorite looks from last season and why they WERK!
1. Make a Statement with Color
Fashion Week is THE time to be extra. Yes, you read that correctly. Take out your colorful dresses and pom pom adorned accessories from the back of your closet because this is their time to shine.
Not a big fan of color? The easiest way to incorporate it into your wardrobe is with your accessories. A bright earring or colorful bag can make even the simplest of looks feel special.
2. When in Doubt, Wear Denim
We fully believe that denim works for almost any occasion, Fashion Week included. But instead of your well-worn mom jeans, look for untraditional denim styles like this fit-and-flare skirt.
3. Play with Prints
Mixing prints is super chic and when done correctly can be magical. But, if you're new to the trend, look for a dress that does the pattern mixing for you.
4. Add a Statement Shoe
Sometimes all you need is a really good pair of shoes. With the right shoes, you can *almost* wear your pajamas in public and get away with it!
5. Go Vintage
Personally, I never like to dress like anyone else. So when it comes to Fashion Week, finding some super special vintage pieces is a sure fire way to make sure no one else will have the same look as you. Here, I found this vintage Valentino skirt at one of my favorite local stores. I then paired it with an oxford shirt but layered vintage broaches on the collar for a super unique spin on a classic look.
