Do you ever find yourself scrolling for hours on end to the point where you don’t even know what time of the day it is? Or constantly checking your emails even at dinner or on vacation? We are all guilty of letting our careers consume us! We need to take a step back from the computer or phone and truly enjoy the beauty that is around us!

Put the phone down

We completely get it - our phones are pretty much our lives, too! And we constantly forget the importance of logging off and taking time for ourselves. So start with setting a goal! Start off small by turning it off while you shower or charging it outside of your room at night. Disconnecting may seem like a sacrifice but is such a benefit in the long run.

Exercise

Life is crazy and becomes overwhelming quite quickly but exercise is a great way to get your mind off work. Exercise can be anything you want it to be - a long walk around your neighborhood, a Soul Cycle class or some time in the gym. Sweating and getting your mind off of work while listening to your favorite music, will be sure to help you relax.

Journal

Getting your thoughts down on paper can be the most therapeutic way to begin or end your day. You don’t have to write out every detail of your day unless you want to - simple phrases, quotes you like or even a word that has stuck out in your head are more than enough. We promise that when the pen hits the paper, it will relieve your stress and allow you to understand how you are feeling that day.

Sleep

We so often stay on our phones or computers super late into the night. We are eager to know what other people are doing, what they’re wearing, and where they’ve been. We tap on hundreds of Instagram stories, scroll through twitter, check on Facebook, and watch countless snaps - it truly never ends unless you stop it. By limiting your social media before you go to sleep, you will help yourself to get a goodnights rest and feel refreshed the next day.

Read

Let’s be honest, growing up reading was not our first choice of pleasure, but as we grow older, it is one of the best ways to be with ourselves. Reading a romance or career advice book - or anything in between - is a great way to keep your brain working while relaxing at the same time. Finding a book you enjoy might be difficult but once you dive in, you’ll want to put down your phone and pick up a book after a long day at the office!

Taking time for ourselves will ultimately make us more productive in the workplace! So grab your favorite book, take a stroll and breathe in the fresh air, you deserve time to yourself!
