On January 13th, Caroline hosted the latest in the Making it in Manhattan’s Mentor Monday series in collaboration with Bloomingdale 's. Open to the public, the series of panels highlights remarkable women sharing how they built their careers and how they got to where they are today.

This month’s panel featured women who are making it in the fashion, beauty, and lifestyle industries, specifically utilizing media to share their unique message.

If you’re an E! News and the Today Show junkie like us, you’ve probably seen Sydney Sadick grace the silver screen. She’s an on-air style expert who appears on a variety of shows here in New York.

Tyla-Lauren Gilmore is an influencer who shares covetable hair tutorials on YouTube and Instagram.

Founder of the “Press Send” podcast, Chinae Alexander lays it all on the line with her advice.

Previously at Refinery 29, Alyssa Coscarelli recently ventured on her own as a fashion writer, editor and influencer and shares her journey to success.

Here’s everything you need to know from these industry trailblazers-

  • Just start! There’s so many people out there who want to put their art out into the world, but something is stopping them. A lot of people feel held back because they don’t feel like their video content, photo shoots etc isn’t perfect enough to share yet. Well, all of last nights ladies agreed that you just need to start. It does not need to be perfect at first, just start putting your work out there and eventually you will get it to the place you want it to be.

  • Find your voice! What are you going to add to the conversation that isn’t already being said? The influencer market is pretty over saturated right now, BUT, with that being said, there is definitely room for everyone. So, find your voice, find your personality, and find what makes you different.

  • It doesn’t need to be for everyone! The freelance life is definitely not for everyone. It’s okay to have a side passion that is just that, a side passion. You don’t have to always make it your full-time gig. But everyone did agree, once you go freelance you will never want to go back!

  • It’s okay to have off days! When you’re working for yourself it comes to a point where you need to realize that not every single day is going to be insanely productive. You might have days when you wake up and are just feeling off, and that is OKAY. We repeat, that is okay. Learn to let yourself have those days without feeling guilty.

  • Don’t just share the highlights! One thing we all agreed on was that it’s important to share more than just the highlights. It’s important to be more raw, more real, more vulnerable. The post you have a little bit of anxiety about sharing because how real it is? That’s the post to share. Because if you can help just one person that’s all that really matters.
