5 Last Minute Halloween Costumes You Already Have in Your Closet

By: Zoey Woldman

When it comes to Halloween, there are two types of girls: the ones that start planning their costumes on Nov. 1st of the year before, and the others that find themselves staring hopelessly into their closets the night of. This one goes out to all the wardrobe gazers. We have a few ideas that prove there is hope yet for last minute costumes. Below, we’re breaking down five last minute Halloween costumes that every fashion gal most likely already has in her closet, minimal additions optional.

Audrey Hepburn as Holly Golightly

If Breakfast at Tiffany’s doesn’t come to mind at the mere mention of Audrey Hepburn’s name, we have failed as a fashion society. Not only is Holly Golightly one of the chicest movie characters to ever exist, but she is also one of the easiest looks to recreate for Halloween.

What you need/already have: A black dress, black heels, pearl necklace, and attitude.

What you might add: A tiny tiara, elbow length black gloves, a croissant, and a coffee.

Your Birthday Suit

Who doesn’t love a punny costume?! Every great one shows your creativity, your humorous side and, in this case, your ability to combine a fun holiday with sophisticated fashion. If all else fails, go as your birthday suit (but, please, put on some clothes).

What you need/already have: A suit of any kind—use your imagination!

What you might add: A birthday crown or sash.

Sports Star

Who said that fashionistas can’t love sports? Many of us were athletes in high school or college or, at the very least, have a favorite sports team to rep on the weekends. Any good sports fan has a jersey for their favorite team! When in doubt, pull it out (probably from hiding in the bottom left corner of your drawer).

What you need/already have: A jersey or old sports uniform.

What you might add: Eyeliner “sweat” strips under your eyes and a sweat-band.

Britney Spears

Britney Spears has had many a moment that has evolved into a viral meme or great costume. These are especially great for the guys or gals that grew up in the 90’s. Dress up as everyone’s favorite teen pop star, and be Britney from Baby One More Time OR, if you have a partner, Britney and Justin in Canadian Tuxedos.

Baby One More Time

What you need/already have: A white button down (to tie), a cardigan, a mini skirt, and knee high socks.

What you might add: Pink pom-pom/bow hair ties.

Canadian Tuxedos

What you need/already have: ALL DENIM—extra points if you have a floor length denim skirt.

What you might add: A Jeweled choker and belt.

Any Animal

When all else fails, just be a cat, bunny, or a leopard. Yes, it may be “basic”, but everyone does it at some point. It’s practically a Halloween rite of passage. First, figure out what animal you want to be by looking to see if you own any animal print.

What you need/already have: Animal print anything or solid black or white outfit (for cat or bunny).

What you might add: A headband with ears, a tail, and eyeliner to draw on a nose and whiskers.

Not everyone plans what they’re going to be for Halloween way in advance, and that’s okay. Chances are, you already have the materials to dress up as at least one of the above options. We bet no one will even be able to tell that you waited until the last minute.
